About

Hello! My name is Reinholds Zviedris and I’m DevOps engineer, cloud aficionado and generalist. I live in Riga, Latvia and mostly work remotely, but you can occasionally meet me in person in Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam or Tallinn.

I hold PhD degree in Computer Science that I earned in my alma mater University of Latvia where I’m also working now as Assistant Professor in Faculty of Computing with specialisation in DevOps, Embedded Systems, IoT and Wireless Sensor Networks. Meanwhile I’m also CEO of 19 points and NETERO, CTO of Dagmaara as well researcher in Advensis. My last achievement includes starting small startup called ARMfarm - bare metal Kubernetes cluster-in-a-box.

My primary interests include researching and implementing cool cloud based stuff for my clients. I’m specializing in AWS, but also know my way around in Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Hetzner Cloud and Scaleway. I really enjoy using Infrastructure as a Code (IaaC) tools like Terraform, Terragrunt, AWS CloudFormation and Ansible in my everyday tool set, but I’m not afraid of Bash shell scripting as well. I’ve battle proven knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes - from setting them up on bare-metal and cloud instances to managing multiple various sizes K8s clusters.

Also I know how to code and occasionally develop or architect some web or mobile apps mainly dealing with backend. Most recent coding languages that I’ve used in my daily work life is Python (I helped Data Scientists to roll out their recommendation algorithms on K8s and AWS SageMaker using custom built API and Data Engineers to connect Exasol data ware house with Apache Airflow), PHP (a lot of my clients still use this for projects based on Laravel or Wordpress), Node.js (despite dependency hell this is very nice tool for building web apps) and Go Programming Language (this is more of hobby project where I aid my colleagues of Advensis in building ezRoute software). I’m a big fan of serverless movement because I see the future in it even if it reduces the number of DevOps engineers.

Thanks to my over 20 years experience I could perform magic with all kind of flavours of Linux (including Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, Alpine Linux and Flatcar Container Linux), FreeBSD and macOS on bare metal or in virtualized environments. I’m no stranger to network concepts and routing either. I can find my way around in Microsoft Windows and Active Directory, too, i.e. connecting them together to use as authentification for your AWS environment.

I’ve helped my clients to deploy successfully to cloud not only their simple architected web pages and projects, but also some bigger microservice or serverless architected systems based on Node.js, Flask, AWS Lambda, AWS Chalice, gRPC, ArangoDB, MongoDB, AWS DynamoDB, Redis, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ and lot of other buzzwords.

If you liked what you just read and want to hire me for your next project - then contact me.

P.S. I don’t bear AWS, Microsoft, Google or any other cloud certification. I have acquired all my know-how based on my previous knowledge, client requirements or my proactive actions to learn new stuff.
